Levy Main Gallery: The Art Beyond Sight juried exhibition lets artists show how "visual" art can be made more accessible for the blind and visually impaired. Each work includes a short description that has been transcribed into braille. The juror is Valarie Burrows, Accessibility Coordinator from the Museum of Fine Art, Boston, MA. This show has created quite a buzz on the street, and we are getting a lot of inquiries about it from the media and groups who want to come and see it.

Venture in the Abstract, sculptures by Marty Cannata, represents an exploration in options and directions through an on-going engagement with the known and unknown. The use of materials expresses new dimensions in the application of awareness, intuition, and perception.
Ann Tolson painting
The East Gallery will also be showing Body Language, acrylic paintings by Ann Tolson. Originally from England, Ann sees and paints figures and objects as shapes and color, using a simplifying process that leaves in just enough detail to clarify it yet emphasizing it in a plain or abstracted colored background. Known for painting on a larger scale, Ann's recent series is much smaller in an effort to try to make it look more crowded.
Levy Main Gallery: The NHAA, in its continued effort to be collaborative and to play a pivotal role in the understanding of the visual arts in the region, invited colleges in the state with art programs to select a small group of students to submit a piece of their work for exhibition. This is a wonderful opportunity not only for established artists to see these works, but also to give exposure to the colleges and their art programs. The participants are: Dartmouth College, Rivier College, University of New Hampshire, Plymouth State College, Keene State College, Chester College, New England College, and the New Hampshire Institute of Art.

Alberta Geyer, "Tang Dynasty Steed", oil
Jeannie Duval, "Oil Painting", oil
During the month of February, the East Gallery displayed "Exquisite Realism" paintings of Jeannie Duval, Alberta Geyer and Mary Phillips. The public will get a chance to see some beautifully rendered portraits, still lifes, and landscapes by these three well established New Hampshire artists. The depth and richness of their painting that conveys the beauty of the varied subject matter is not to be missed.
Levy Main Gallery: In the Main Gallery, members of the NHAA displayed many mediums and styles for "Passages", the NHAA show that offers artists the opportunity to present different aspects of life s journeys through their visual interpretations. Those journeys can include growth, sorrow, joy and struggle. Come see a show that will surely elicit many interesting emotional responses.

Jim Kociuba Statement
My concern for wetlands comes from the environment that literally surrounds my home. The wetland paintings are devoid of any human or animal presence. I have noticed that wetlands that were recently teeming with indigenous plant life, insects and animals are becoming inhabited by purple loosestrife and that the animals that lived in these areas are being driven away by human development. What remains of these once ecologically important spaces is what I choose to portray.
I have always been awestruck by the beauty of New England sunsets. I learned that some of the colors we see in sunsets would not be present if it were not for particles of air pollution that refract the light and are responsible for beauty and a reminder that our world is changing.
These paintings are produced by starting with an underpainting of intense red and then palette knife preliminary layers. As each piece evolves, I choose to work the surface with a traditional painting method with a brush or by adding pumice and metallic paints with a palette knife. Technically I am working with a combination of automotive paints, acrylics, pumice, metallic acrylics and oils on canvas.
