Gallery Rentals at NHAA

For your private celebration or business event, consider this sophisticated downtown venue, with an ever-changing backdrop of the region’s best contemporary artwork.

About the Gallery:

Over 2,000 square feet for your event, with a welcoming entrance area, two separate galleries offer a flexible floor plan for celebrations, socializing, or networking. It is an ideal venue for gathering up to 75 people, depending on the exhibitions on view. Our unique horse-shoe floor plan can be used to create different areas for socializing, food and beverage, and entertainment. Our historic ground-level, single-floor facility is accessible to wheelchair users via a portable ramp. One unisex bathroom is located in the gallery. Permanent gallery furniture offers comfortable built-in seating. The main gallery is equipped with a Sonos bluetooth speaker. We have a portable microphone that can be set up in any room.

No decorations needed! We are happy to share the exhibition themes and artists who will be on view during your event. We can provide black tablecloths for the tables we provide, feel free to provide your own linens and flowers if desired. We offer 30 gray metal folding chairs, two six-foot tables, three cocktail high-tops, and three 2ft x 4ft rectangular tables.

Portsmouth’s South End is full of attractions. Ask us about visiting Strawbery Banke Museum, Prescott Park, The Gundalow Company, and more! There is ample metered street parking on State Street, and additional metered parking at 1 Harbour Place Parking lot near Memorial Bridge.

Rental policies:

Our facility is available for $350 an hour, with a minimum of two hours and a maximum of five. A 50% deposit is required to reserve the gallery. It will be credited in full towards your balance, unless damage to the facility, equipment, or artwork is incurred. Non-profit organizations and business start-ups newer than 2 years are eligible for a sliding scale based on their annual operating budget. Please contact us for more details.

Events canceled within two weeks of their scheduled date will be charged a $100 cancellation fee, to be withheld from the deposit. A signed rental agreement must be on file prior to any function. The balance for a rental is due the day before the event. Any additional charges for extended time or cleaning charges are due within five business days after the event.

NHAA staff will set up the tables and chairs belonging to the Gallery. You or your caterers are required to set up and break down any additional furniture rented or brought in for your event. NHAA cannot provide any catering for your event. We invite you to bring in your own food and beverages, or hire a caterer. We are happy to suggest local caterers we have worked with in the past. If alcohol is to be served, only beer and wine is permitted. Evening events must conclude at or before 9:00 PM in order for caterer and staff to clean and close building by 10:00 PM. Renters will be charged an additional $350 per hour, billed in half hour increments, for any event that exceeds this time frame. Renters can expect that the venue will be available for set-up one hour within the event’s start time. One hour is allotted for post-event clean-up. If your event or its clean-up exceeds this timeframe, you will be charged an additional $350 per hour, billed in half-hour increments.

Deliveries and pick-up of rented equipment must be scheduled in conjunction with NHAA staff. We are not able to store overnight rented tables, chairs, and linens (bagged, whether clean or dirty). NHAA does not have space available to keep food or drink refrigerated or frozen. Caterers or user groups need to be prepared to bring in those items during the set-up window. Caterers and user groups are expected to bring in all their own kitchen, serving, and dining supplies.

We ask users to be as low-waste and environmentally-friendly as possible. For single-use disposable items, please consider compostable/biodegradable items. NHAA does not have a dumpster. We ask that you consider either bringing your recyclables and trash home with you, or ask your caterer to dispose of them for you. After your event, all food and trash must be removed. Unused food may be brought to food charities, please research who you would like to donate to ahead of the event.
