Anne Marie Kenny

Anne Marie Kenny grew up in Indianapolis, IN. She graduated with a B.A. in Fine Arts/Textiles from Indiana University, Bloomington. Anne's textile work took a dramatic leap when she moved from Louisiana to New Hampshire and discovered first hand the Amoskeag and Lowell Mills nearby. Inspired by the 'Mill Girls' and their history, Anne embarked on a new kind of quilt she called "Industrial Quilts" in 1990. The contrasts of hand-made versus machine-made became an aesthetic designed to complement each other yet provoke the controversy surrounding the way things of value are made. Anne says 'with progress, what we may lose and what we may gain are part of her message'. Her materials are unconventional contrasted with the traditional pattern of a quilt. Her work is all hand stitched and the layers include historical references.

Anne's work has been exhibited internationally in museums and galleries and is included in permanent collections including the Currier Museum of Art and the Museum of Arts & Design in NYC as well as numerous private and corporate collections.
