Arthur Bruinooge

Arthur Bruinooge became a juried member of NHAA in 2018. Using acrylics as well as water based oils he focuses on painting landscapes, seascapes, cityscapes and maps. He also creates abstract paintings that tell a story. Most of his work is for friends and family but he also does commissioned pieces that in whole or in part support local charities.

The abstract painting accompanying my bio is titled “Tent City” and tells a story about homelessness in America. This painting reminds me of an aerial view of a homeless camp with colorful tents all arranged in a haphazard yet somewhat organized fashion. The letters and numbers all have meaning. In 2024 there were 771,800 homeless people in the US, a growth of 18% over the prior year. One third are children with 85% of homeless families headed by a single mother. Homeless veterans total 32,882. Mental illness or substance abuse accounts for 66% of the homeless population. The largest homeless populations are in CA, NY, FL, WA and TX. There are 150 million people that are homeless worldwide.
