Thomas Berger
Thomas Berger is an artist and life-long naturalist, expressing his love of nature through sculpture, photography and scientific illustration. His sculpture includes organic and figurative works in stone, bronze, and other materials, varying in size from hand-held pieces to large scale public works.
Organic forms, fishes, whales and invertebrate sea-creatures are among his favorite subjects, and are represented in various degrees of abstraction, and occasionally with a dose of humor. A fossil-like appearance in some of his work points at the vulnerability of life and the threats that many life forms face in our time.
His play sculptures on the other hand are friendly companions in public parks and allow for interaction with children and adults alike.
He also illustrates animal species in 2D and 3D for educational purposes.
Berger grew up in a rural town on the Moselle river in Germany, obtained degrees in agriculture and economics, and worked in agriculture in Germany, France and Australia and for the German Volunteers Service in Niger /West Africa and at their head office in Berlin. He had his own landscaping company called 'Green Art' in southern Maine, which offered fine garden design, use of native plants and creation of insect habitats. Berger is now a full-time artist. His work is found in private collections and public locations in New England and beyond. He won awards for his design work, sculpting and photography.
