Erica Bodwell

Erica Bodwell (b. 1965) is a self-taught painter working in oil and watercolor and living in Concord and Tamworth, New Hampshire. She has been drawing and painting for close to ten years, has published two books of poems, and works as a healthcare attorney . She has studied with Fran O’Neil and Catherine Lepp at the New York Studio School, as well as at the Kimball-Jenkins School of Art, the Currier Art Museum, the New Hampshire Technical College Fine Arts program and many other places.

Using a limited palette of deeply saturated colors, her work focuses on the close view, whether of the natural world around her or of the gazes of girls and women she has known throughout her life. Her work often places the viewer in the work, whether at eye-level with wildflowers in a meadow or face-to-face with the subject’s gaze. Erica’s work asks, did we pay attention? Are we paying attention now?
