Carolyn Maul
Carolyn Maul is a professional artist living in Hollis, NH who specializes in Ecoprint artwork. After discovering Ecoprinting in the Fall of 2022 she realized that she was able to incorporate all of the artistic modalities she loved: painting, drawing, mixed media, collage, even quilting! At it’s most basic, Ecoprinting is a botanical contact print that she creates on watercolor paper after having soaked it overnight in an alum solution and binding the plant material securely enough to boil it all for an hour. The boiling process is what causes the dyes and tannins from the plants to permanently adhere to the paper fibers. After it is dried and ironed, Carolyn gets to search for the composition within the chaos. She will often embellish the Ecoprints with mica powder, metal leaf, acrylic paints, illustration pens, colored pencils, or anything else she happens to feel like would enhance the final product.
She is a juried member of the NH League of Craftsmen and her work can be seen in their galleries in Meredith, Concord, and Nashua. She is also a juried member of the NH Art Association and a board member of the Hollis Arts Society. Despite the mess associated with creating art and wrangling a toddler, Carolyn offers Studio Tours by appointment to those who are interested in purchasing a custom Ecoprint for their home.
