Ally Casa
Ally Casa is an artist from Portsmouth, New Hampshire whose work is driven by one key term: character. Believing there are distinctive qualities, feelings, and stories deserving to be set free from every line or shape regardless of any preconceived notions surrounding their simplicity, she fleshes out her work by treating marks as her equal, humanizing them so no detail is left behind. Though familiar with and fond of many mediums, particularly two-dimensional ones, her preferred methods heavily utilize ink, as it is not only flexible but cements work in a way where it is unable to be erased - unable to be modified to fit the standards of what others may deem correct as every stroke should be true to itself and embrace its own non-conforming beauty. She works with the idea that art deserves to be created rather than captured, as one’s mind is the only purely original thing one can contribute to the world: a fact that shouldn't be lamented over but rather celebrated. Trying only to contribute the stuff that’s true to her, whether it be something representational and ridiculous or a little more abstract, she insists on putting care into every element in order to draw feeling out of the work’s viewers - even if this feeling is just a laugh. She currently studies at the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, Rhode Island, as an animation major.
