Christy Utter

Christy's love of photography began in a college darkroom in 1979, when she saw her first image magically appear in the developing tray. That experience led to a lifetime of capturing the beauty of the world in her travels. Ancient European structures have often been favorite subjects in her work, but inspiration has also been found closer to home in the form of seascapes, trees, flowers and seedpods.

She has a special interest in 19th Century historic process printing and pinhole photography, but has found ways to embrace new technologies in the field of photography, while still honoring the past. Her prints are often created by placing large format digital negatives directly onto hand coated art papers before exposing them to light.

Christy is a graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park and received her Graduate Certificate in Photography from the NH Institute of Art. She is a long time member of the NH Art Association and the NH Center for Photography and exhibits her work regularly in local and regional galleries.
