Laurie McGowan

Photography and innate curiosity give me a license to go places and meet people I would not have otherwise. I am drawn to capturing the essence of people in their everyday environments, revealing glimpses of their authentic lives. My travels, particularly to Italy, have deeply influenced my work—where centuries of history seem to blur and merge into the present. I aim to convey this timeless quality, observing how lives and stories unfold in the rhythm of daily activities.

In my small New Hampshire town, surrounded by nature, I experience a similar connection to the world around me. These landscapes and the quiet, grounded pace of life here inspire my approach to photography. I hope to show the beauty in ordinary moments, honoring the the human beings and places that create a sense of shared history, presence and beauty.

I have been teaching this alchemy called photography for many years and have led photo expeditions to Portugal, Ireland, Italy, Morocco, the American Southwest, and New England. Sharing places I love with other artists is my passion! As creator and director of La Collina Artist Residency, I welcome artists to apply for 2025 in Ireland!
