Michael Walek

Michael values New England’s landscape and history. He paints on location both here and abroad where his works are found in many private collections. His works are observations of immediate atmospheric and color events. A whole other color palette develops with each new location. Nature, with its ever changing atmosphere, and the ethereal aspects of life, captivate his attention and inspires artistic expression. He works to create a visual language that expresses his vision of this ephemeral world. Visually the landscape, a person or an object never appears the same over time. His painting often depicts these evolving conditions. He prefers the spontaneity and freshness of working on location and the ideas derived from these paintings are applied to works produced in the studio. Gouache captures the subtle color hues depicting light as it transitions over time. Smaller gouaches are often used to create larger acrylics in the studio.
